OPEN CALL FOR PERFORMING ARTISTS

Apply for a residency at the Frikar Choreographic center (FRIKAR SMIA), surrounded by majestic nature and with great facilities available to use. Experience being in the cradle of Norwegian folk dance and music, and let the deep roots this region has spark new ideas and expressions.
FRIKAR has renovated the old Aurdal School and turned it into a residency for performing artists. “Free yourself” is FRIKAR’s motto, and we hope you can feel this freedom here in the Norwegian farmland and mountains, with sheep grazing in the summer and ski trails in the winter. The residency is funded by the Norwegian Art Council, Oppland County Council and Valdres Nature and Cultural Park, and is in high demand.
Located in the middle of such beautiful nature, we want to encourage artists to showcase their connection to and value of nature; therefore we would like the residency project to relate to nature in theme, content, or in other ways the artist sees fit.
Application should contain:
- CV/Resume for the main artists with photo (max one A4 page each)
- Short description of what you wish to research (max one A4 page)
- Current financing plan for the project
- Description of current stage of the project and how the residency will help it move forward (We specialize in providing support for projects in preproduction, choreography development, or in other research and early development stages)
- How the project relates to nature in theme, content, or in other ways the artist sees fit

For future reference, criteria needed to apply:
Professional performing artist who can document a high artistic level
We offer:
- Housing, as well as fully equipped kitchen and living room facilities
- Use of spacious and scenic studio (including lighting and sound)
- Travel
- An artistic meeting with a local tradition bearer in a field chosen by residential artist (for example music, folk dance, poetry, fine art)
- Possibility for a professional “third eye” of choice who can give feedback into the artistic process
We wish to receive from you:
- A workshop for local artists and talent
- A public viewing of work in progress including an artistic dialog with the audience
The residency for 2020 takes place in September (1-2 weeks)
We have an external committee who select the performing artists who get residency.
Our studio is located at Middelskulevegen 41 in Aurdal, Norway, with good bus connection to Oslo.

Søk residens hjå Fjelldansen i FRIKAR SMIA. Her er du omringa av vakker norsk natur og har tilgang på våre flotte fasiliteter. Opplev å vera i vugga av norsk folkedans og musikk, og lat dei djupe røta denne regionen har gje grobotn for nye idear og utrykk.
FRIKAR har bygd om gamle Aurdal skule til ein residensplass, omringa av sauejorder på sumarstid og skiløype på vinterstid. "Fri deg sjølv" er FRIKARS arbeidsmotto og me håpar at du kan kjenna på denne friheta på residens her hjå oss.
Sidan residensen er lokalisert i vakkert naturlandskap, ynskjer me å oppmuntre kunstnarar til å vise sin tilknytning til naturen og verdsette inspirasjonen den gjev. Difor oppfordrar me til at prosjektet relaterer seg til naturen på ein måte som dykk finn naturleg og inspirerande. Residensen er støtta av Kulturrådet, Oppland fylkeskommune og Valdres natur og kulturpark.
Søknaden skal innehaode:
- Kort bio og CV med foto for hovedaktørar (maks ei A4 side kvar)
- Kort skildring om kva de ynskjer å utforske (maks ein A4 side)
- Beskriv prosjektets form og korleis residensen vil hjelpe prosjektet framover. (Me spesialiserer oss på å gje støtte til prosjekt i ein tidleg fase, koreografi utvikling, produksjon og/eller utforsking).
- Finansieringsplan for prosjektet
- Korleis relaterer prosjektet seg til naturen?(Kan vera i tematikk, kunstnerisk, koreografisk eller i andre valg/aspekt)

Kriterier for å søke:
- Profesjonelle dansekunstnarar som kan dokumentere eit godt kunstnarleg nivå
Me tilbyr:
- Residens med overnatting, kjøkken og fjellstove
- Studio inkludert lysrigg
- Reise og diett
- Eit kunstnar møte mellom lokal tradisjonsberar og dansekunstnere på residens (me organiserer eit møte med ein lokal tradisjonsberar innan ein sjanger/tema som de ynskjer, det kan vera innan musikk, folkedans, poesi eller anna)
- Mulighet til å få eit eksternt "auge" til å komme med innspel inn i prosjektet om ynskjeleg.
Me ynskjer:
- Ein verkstad med dei lokale dansetalenta og/eller
- Ei offentleg visning og kunstnarleg samtale med publikum.
Tidspunktet for residens er september 2020.
Utvalet som vel kunstnarar er eit eksternt kunstnerisk råd.
Studioet er i Aurdal, Middelskulevegen 41, Valdres, og er tre timar i buss frå Oslo. Bussen går sju gonger dagleg. Stoppestaden heiter "Aurdal kirke".
